5 Simple Way to Get a Beautiful Smile

A great smile helps boost your self-confidence, lifts your spirits and makes everyone around you feel great as well. GPA Dental shares how you can get that megawatt smile with these easy to follow tips…

1. Drink with a Straw
Drinking through a straw positioned towards the back of the mouth limits the amount of time the beverage is in contact with your teeth. Not only does this lessen the risk of decay, it prevents your front teeth from being stained.

2. Wait to Brush
It may seem intuitive to brush immediately after drinking coffee or juice to avoid potential staining, but did you know that brushing your teeth right after consuming acidic beverages will actually erode your enamel. Enamel erosion will cause dentin to show through, making your teeth look even more yellow. Instead of brushing immediately, wait for at least 30 minutes to an hour.

3. Use Water as a Chaser
One of the easiest things you can do to keep your teeth looking good is to drink water or rinse your mouth after you eat or drink. Water neutralises the effects of acidic and sugary foods, preventing erosion and decay. Drinking water after sipping on a coloured beverage can also prevent stains from sticking to your teeth.

4. Chug, Don’t Sip
Slowly sipping your drink over a prolonged period of time is the equivalent of bathing your teeth in sugar, acid, or dye. Drink your beverage quickly instead.

5. Talk to Your Dentist
If your teeth are not as bright, the first step is to determine the cause. Surface stains can be polished off with a professional cleaning. But if teeth are overlapping, it could cast a shadow, causing your smile to seem less bright. Discolorations may also be due to changes in your tooth structure. Your dentist will suggest the best way to give you an amazing smile.
